FULL BOARD
Each horse has a designated stall in one of the two barns. We use both pelleted, non-pine, bedding and extra-fine shavings in our stalls. Which bedding is used depends on the needs and habits of the individual horse.
Horses are turned out in same-gender pastures and brought in twice daily at feeding time. We cannot accommodate aggressive horses or those requiring individual turnout unless in medical recovery.
During the summer when temperatures are extreme the horses may stay in under fans IF the barns are less humid than outside. Oftentimes it is less humid outside than in. Since there are fans in all but one of the pastures the horses are happier being out, able to graze & move around, and go in the shade with fans when they choose.
All pastures have 3-sided run-in shelters. All shelters, but one (lack of electricity), have box fans installed.
Hay: Orchard/Alfalfa
Grain: Premium grains by Seminole and Banks Mill
Grain allowance is 1 scoop/3 quarts twice daily. If your horse needs more per meal there will be an additional cost which is based on the current price per bag of that particular grain. Hay allowance is 2 flakes per day. Additional charges will apply if you want your horse to have more.
All horses must be on a daily feed-thru wormer and paste-wormed with a broad-spectrum praziquantel wormer twice yearly. Daily wormer must be provided by horse owner.
We will blanket, fly spray and fly mask your horse at no additional charge but you must provide those items.
All horses must provide current vaccination record, negative Coggins and receive a Strangles vaccine each Spring.
PASTURE BOARD
We have one pasture devoted to a small number of pasture boarders. Pasture boarders live in turnout 24/7 and are fed outside. The horses are haltered & cross-tied to the fence at feeding time so each is guaranteed to get their full portion and no horse is eating food that isn't theirs.
Pasture horses receive the same grain as full-boarders and approximately 20lbs each of Coastal Bermuda hay daily. UPDATE: at this time we are feeding 1 flake of orchard alfalfa per day in lieu of Coastal due to the plumpness of our pasture horses. A decision has not yet been made about resuming Coastal in winter or staying with orchard/alfalfa.
Pasture boarders are required to be on the same daily feed-thru wormer program as all other horses.
WSS staff will fly spray your pasture horse but will not blanket or flysheet as part of the board. This service can be added for $25.00 per month.
All horses must provide current vaccination record, negative Coggins and
receive a Strangles vaccine each Spring.
Horses with aggression or significant dominance issues cannot be accommodated on pasture board.
